The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT)
The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) aims to incorporate diverse social contexts and public bodies, criteria and instruments that assure the optimum protection, conservation and use of the natural resources of Mexico, thereby forming an inclusive and comprehensive environmental policy that allows to achieve sustainable development.
To comply with the latter, SEMARNAT, its three Sub-secretaries and its decentralized and deconcentrated bodies that are part of the Federal Environment Sector, work in four priority areas: Conservation and Sustainable Use of Ecosystems and Biodiversity; Prevention and control of pollution; Integrated Water Resource Management; and combating Climate Change.
